Twins born to Canadian outside Canada

Hi all,

I hope this question has a simple answer. I'm a Canadian by birth, born in Ontario in 1974. I'm also an Australian due to my parents being Australian, but they immigrated to Canada in the 70's and back again in the 80's. I have my Ontario Birth Certificate, SIN card and passport, issued in 1999 when I went back for awhile but has now expired.

I have 7 year old twins, born in Australia in 2008, to an Australian mother.

Are my twins automatically Canadian citizens? I'm fairly certain they are but I noticed there were changes in 2009 and again in 2015 so would like some clarification.

They are indeed Canadian. What you need to do is apply for their citizenship certificates, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp and once you have these, you can apply for their Canadian passports.
