My family has travel booked from Australia to Canada in July and we wanted to inquire as to whether our Australian born daughter (born 2016) needs a Canadian passport (due to the new dual citizen laws which I just discovered) as she has an Australian passport and an approved ETA to enter Canada which we received in June last year.

The father is Canadian born (1980) and a Canadian citizen and passport holder but has resided in Australia for over 7 years as an Australian permanent resident

- Our daughter was born in Australia in 2016

- mother is Australian born (1982) and an Australian citizen

Our 15 month old daughter was born in Australia and has never been to Canada, however she has a Canadian born father . I just wanted to confirm thatn she can travel on her Australian passport and ETA as wasnt sure if she was also considered a Canadian citizen or whether that is something she can later apply for. If so will she need a Canadian passport to travel to Canada now or will the approved ETA and Australian passport be ok?

Have you formally applied for your daughters Canadian citizenship as a child born outside Canada to a Canadian parent ?

No we havent applied for her citizenship. So guess that means she isnt automatically a citizen at birth so

So if we havent applied for citizenship she can still travel on her Australian passport?
