TRV validity query - permit or passport? I am on work permit now. Imp.

I am currently in Canada and my current work permit (Post Grad) is expiring on October 29 2014. I am applying for Bridge Open Work Permit next week but would like to apply for TRV too so as to be able to visit India and come back later this year. Till when is TRV valid generally (is it passport expiry date or permit expiry?)
