what's the chances of TRV to Canada while having a spousal application open? TRV is from Russia. Does anyone think that this will most likely result in a denial since the application is coming from Russia?
Also when applying, should we mention family visit or as a tourist? Because we are living together right now but will travel together to Canadian if she gets the visitor visa. So technically she's not visiting me as we are together, would that mean we can apply as a tourist rather than visit a family reason?

It is hard to say right now, but yes, many have had trvs approved. Many have also had them denied. Russia itself should not be a big issue save for potentially security clearance (if needed) and priority (other visa offices in the region busy). Main evaluation is whether they think ties to home country are sufficient. Obviously having spousal app open implies risk will not return. That said, sometimes they seem to issue anyway, probably/possibly when they have doen the approval in principle anyway.
If you plan to visit together, sure, apply as tourist. Since you are Canadian residing abroad, things related to your app (jobhunting or whatever) at least will help you with the intent to return (should you be asked).
