I applied for a TRV on july 18, 2017
I hold a valid study permit till May 2019.
I emailed cic on august 14th and was told my application was transferred to New York for further review (extra background check).
Today is August 30th, and still no passport request and no approval of application.
Anyone familiar with this scenario can tell me please how longer is it gonna be before New York determines I am no danger on the Canadian society and eventually give me my new visa?
PS: I lived in Canada for 4 years now only left for 7 weeks vacation to visit back home. So comical they're doing a background check on me!

I cancelled my trip in August. Now I am planning on going in december. I just wanna make sure I will get my visa before mid december. I don't want to just wait and then get screwed up again. Can I hire a lawyer to expedite it and question what they're examining?

How can I do so? and would that help in expediting things? or just clarify what they're doing and why they're doimg all that extra checking on me 4 years after I lived in Canada

I ordered them online today. At least I get to know wha is the reason that ruined all my plans and made miss my sister's wedding back home. Which sounds probably trivial to you but is a big deal for me. The canadian immigration system for international students is unfair and full of discrimination. Just because I hold Syrian citizenship and went to Lebanon for a visit (to visit my family) and never went t Syria in my life; My applocation was sent to new York to make sure I'm mot a terrorist. What a joke. I'm Christian by the way.

Hi, did you get back anything from your GCMS notes? I'm in a similar predicament and am waiting for my visa for a year now. Its been transferred to NY and background check is still processing.
