Travelling once PR is approved? Do you need your PR card?

Hi everyone,

Getting a little ahead of myself, as we've just sent our PR application off today... But, are you able to travel/vacation once PR is approved - or is it required that you wait until the PR card is issued first?

I'd like to take my girlfriend on a trip/vacation once all of this is out of the way, and was just curious about that.

If we'd need to wait until she gets her PR card (assuming we're approved) - how long does this usually take?

Any advice is appreciated!

There are many beautiful places to visit in Canada,
Take a look to the great Canada, Your wife will appreciate that,
after you can take her to travel the world, and that will give time
to get the Permanent Resident Card.
Try to play safe. With her card she wont face any problem upon return.

But If you travel to USA, then you can use the Record of Landing (IMM 1000),
naturally everybody need to meet residency requirements.

It's perfectly fine to travel, no need to wait for the card. She can travel to Canada on the strength of her Australian passport as if she were a visitor and present herself to CBSA as a PR.

Well, it is true if you have a visa exempt passport, you can travel out and then in to CANADA. And on the Passport check desk, person can show his COPR. But It is good to wait for PR card...it takes 6 weeks top to get a PR card...so better wait and play safe than sorry.

Yes agreed it's fine to travel as she has visa-exempt passport. It would just be as if you wanted to take a trip now, when obviously she doesn't have PR card.

When checking in to any return flight to Canada from another country, she would just present her visa-exempt passport and that should be good enough. Once arrived in Canada airport, she can show passport + COPR to show CBSA she is a PR, as they don't actually require the physical PR card.
