Dear Forum Members,

I am expecting passports from CIC (with Immigrant stamp) anytime next week. I reside in Canada and am on a work permit. I have to travel to US during the end of this month. Can I do the landing next week, get the COPR and travel to the US without the PR card (as it takes about 35 days for the card to be mailed) i.e just with COPR and valid US visa ? I plan to drive to US and come back to Canada in 1 week.

Is it a must that I need to apply for Travel documents in Canadian Consulate in US before I can come back to Canada ?

Thanks for your valuable advice and suggestions !

Good day
Sri

As long as you are not travelling by commercial carrier(plane, train, boat or bus), you do not need a pr card or travel document to go to the US. So yes, you can land and drive to the US using your COPR & US visa.

I'm also in a similar situation, but need to travel to Costa Rica. Have a work permit and UK passport and waiting for PR card to arrive in the mail.

What would happen if I travel without a PR card? Can the airline refuse to allow me on a plane in Costa Rica back to Canada or can immigration refuse entry once landed?

I think it's a bit silly that before I got my PR status, I could travel fine on my work permit, now that I'm official I can't travel untill getting a PR card which takes 2 months.

You should apply for a travel document while in Costa Rica. Yes, the airline can deny you boarding the aircraft and same goes with any commercial carrier(train, bus, boat).

Yeah, we were looking at that option, but then the waiting time for a travel document is 15 business days, but we're only there for 10.

Hi,

My parents landed in Canada on April 24 and don't have the PR card yet. We need to go to the US for a family get together hosted by my sister. We are flying into US and then my sister plans to drive them back. My questions are:
1. Can we fly into the US and then drive back, or does it have to be car both ways since they don't have their PR card yet?
2. My sister obviously has US licence plate. I have read that IO don't like PR arriving in US licence plated cars. Does this apply to my parents? They are seniors and obviously cannot drive themselves so my sister will be driving them.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Thanks,
pinkdhr

They can fly to the US as long as they have a US visa.

If it is your sisters car, I also don't see how that could cause them any problems
