Transport as a career in canada

Hi Everyone,

I will be in Canada soon, I am past 50 years, have driven small cars, educated NOW will like to diversify into driving a truck to earn a living instead of looking out for a blue collared job, can anyone give an insight of how to go about it and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

Trucking is a well paying job in Canada, you require AZ licence for it

there are many training schools and it will cost you about $1500 with drivers training,air brakes etc
If you want your training at some community college it would cost you $6000 or more.

Advantage : Once you have completed your training then you can work with any company as co driver and one thing is sure that you will never be jobless as truck drivers are in shortage.You will make about $4000-$6000 pm. Later on you can also buy your own truck and can become owner operator.

Disadvantage : If you are a family man, you would see the face of your family after 7-10 days.
Driving truck is considered as risky in winter( with snow on roads)
Isolation for days and weeks can result in depression.
Driving for 10-12 hrs in a day for 7 days is not an easy job. It can impact ones health. 80 % of the new truck drivers leave this job in the 1st 4 months.
