Thanks coolguy,
If we dont intend to go out of the airport, and be transferring passenger, even then do we need transit visa?
Actually British Airways from Cairo have two stop overs, Heathrow and JFK, before landing in Toronto.
Can I avail this flight, staying inside the airports, waiting for the next flights.

Yes, you still need a US visa, see information below from the
US Department of State - Travel.State.Gov website:
Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. Transit (C) visas are nonimmigrant visas for persons traveling in immediate and continuous transit through the United States enroute to another country, with few exceptions.
If you already have a valid visitor (B) visa, you may be able to use it to transit the United States. If you are a citizen of a participating country, you may be able to transit the United States on the Visa Waiver Program.
Currently, 37 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program, as shown below:
Andorra Hungary New Zealand
Australia Iceland Norway
Austria Ireland Portugal
Belgium Italy San Marino
Brunei Japan Singapore
Czech Republic Latvia Slovakia
Denmark Liechtenstein Slovenia
Estonia Lithuania South Korea
Finland Luxembourg Spain
France Malta Sweden
Germany Monaco Switzerland
Greece the Netherlands Taiwan

As coolguy implied, if there's an option for you to fly through the UK (Heathrow, London) or any other country of the European Union and then directly to Toronto, go for it. Any kind of US and/or Canadian visa, including immigration visa, is considered a transit pass for the EU countries and you don't need a transit visa. You cannot leave the terminal, but you can stay in the transit zone without a need for additional visa.
Yet you do need special transit visa if flying via the USA, even if you have a valid Canadian visa or PR, but your passport is not from a country participating in the US visa waiver program.
Check your flight options from Cairo with one stop-over in the EU. There's lots of direct flights to Toronto from the EU countries, e.g. London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna, Dusseldorf, Munchen, Madrid, Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Rome, Athens, etc.

You need to get the transit visa in advance.

Sir
In case of intended Exit from Airport ie Entry in US , you need Visa , and in case of transit no visa required.
For upto date regulations please cotact your travel agent / air line , they will advice you accordingly.
Kind Regards

Incorrect. If you are transiting through the US airport only (i.e. not leaving the airport) you still need a transit visa. Without a transit visa the airline won't let you board the flight to the US. http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhnv11.html
Transit visa is must if passing through US if passport holder is not from the visa exempt country.
US will not give visa on arrival
