Tracking application via vfs site vs linking account

Hi friends,

Sorry if my ques. sounds stupid 2 u

can u please elaborate guys, how i could track my application status better, through vfs global site by tracking id or by linking my paper app. to online account?

If i link my account, then i will not get any mail from cic( read somewhere in this forum),,so whats the best way to get updates about my application?

You can get more info by linking your application. No, you get all updates and it is more informational than the VFS site.
To link your application online:
Go through this and follow all steps carefully...
1) Go to CIC website -> My application -> Check your application status -> select study permit -> Link your paper based appliction
2) Select: continue to Gckey
3)Select: Sign up on next page and create your username, password and security questions.
4)After creating my cic account, click link application to this account.
5)Then select category as Temporary residence and subcategory as Study permit and extension.
6)Then select Family name,given name and date of birth option.
7)Fill your family name(surname), given name and date of birth.
8)Next in applicant personal info fill passport information only and DONOT FILL CITY AND COUNTRY OF BIRTH.
9) Fill program start and end date as well as DLI number of the institution (found in offer letter)
10) Your application will be found and can be linked.
11) You can get real time updates on your paper application.

What is your name on your passport? full name

So enter Gagandeep as your given name and Singh as your surname. Enter it in CAPS

i tried, but after signing into gckey, i only see continue option,(which takes me back 2 home page) there is no option link application to this account

You'll see it at the top of the page.
With other options like DLI number and etc.

Plz help me i m unable to link my application . There is written that information misght wrong or application is not on system wait for 24 hrs :-[

Then you have to wait till they link your application try after a day or two again.
