Time validity of PRTD

Does anybody on this forum ever got a prtd. What is the normal validity time of a prtd, like one month, two month or three months. I mean after getting prtd, how many days we have to reach Canada.
Will appreciate an appropriate and urgent response.

I applied for a PRTD for my minor son in NYC and it was valid for 5 months (July to Dec 31, 2018).
