Just want to clarify some details on the new bill in regards to the time spent in Canada. So it says that time spent in Canada as a international student/foreign worker will count towards the 3 years requirement for citizenship?
So it would be like for example I came into Canada as a international student in 2013 and got my PR in 2016 so technically from 2013 to 2016 would count and estimated date for eligibility would be 2017 or 2018.
As i understand it in your example one year credit for time 2013 / 2015 at one half day for every actual day in the country. Then you need 2 complete years from when you become PR so could well be 2018 .
The important thing is in calculating forward in your example the 2 years from becoming PR when you count back 5 years from that date then any qualifying half day credits have to be in the 3 years prior to PR which seems be the case for you.
If i got this wrong sure someone will jump in and correct me
Applicants may count each day they were physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person before becoming a permanent resident as a half-day toward meeting the physical presence requirement for citizenship, up to a maximum credit of 365 days.
Oh I see now so its 2 years spent as a PR and the count backwards for the previous day spent as international student as half a day. So probably 2018 would the estimated date of eligibility.

Still need to be physical days in Canada as a student. So 730 days as a student for which you claim a half day for each of those 730 days making the one year/ 365 days.
In effect i guess makes this approach 4 years physically present out of 5 as opposed to 3 out of 5 without the pre PR credit.

I think I recall seeing a post somewhere that this only qualified if accompanying a spouse on a work or study visa and for sure not just as a tourist. It is not clearly defined but that could be the interpretation of temp resident.
Others can comment on that if they are more knowledgable or have a different view.
