My partner (sponsor) and I have been applying to a Spouse Sponsorship from within Canada as well as an Open Work Permit. My last work permit ended on January 31st and I’ve been staying in Canada as a visitor without a visa since then, as I am from a TRV (temporary resident visa) exempt country.
Do you know if I can stay in Canada on implied status as my application is beeing processed or if I should apply to a TRV?
Being a TRV exempt visitor also means I don't carry any proof that I am legally entitled to stay in Canada (aside from a valid ETA) at the moment. Do you know how I can renew my driver's licence in this case, or travel abroad and be sure to come back?

since you have applied for pr and owp, you are under implied status. it's risky to travel but it might work since you have a valid eta. the only thing is you do not have a valid status as of the moment.

To be clear, did you apply to change your status to visitor prior to your work permit expiring in January? If you did and it was approved and you submitted your PR/OWP app before your visitor status expired, you have Implied Status.
A TRV has nothing to do with status in Canada and as a visa-exempt person, you don't qualify for one anyways.
You need to contact the licensing agency in your province. There is nothing you can do to make sure you will be allowed re-entry. It is up to CBSA upon entry; while the risk of refusal is very low, that is a risk that you need to decide for yourself to take.
