Dear all,

I will take another 1-year program after my current postgrad program is completed in December 2023. However, most of the May 2024 programs in my college are closed now. If I take the September 2024 program, can I apply for a study permit extension from inside Canada and stay until the program starts? I heard that the maximum time allowed to wait between programs like that is 4 months. Thanks for your input.

Why are you taking a second program? You would only be eligible for a one year PGWP based on only one program as both programs need to be completed within two years.

So if I take a 3-semester program that will start in May 2024 (end in May 2025, I suppose), I will not be eligible for a 3-year PGWP? I will complete my current program in December this year. I started my current program in May 2023.

If you complete both programs within 2 years then you may be eligible for a 3 year PGWP. So you will need to need to complete the second program by May 2025. I say eligible because 3 years is not guaranteed.
