hi all

This early October, IRCC announced that open work permit is available, but has anyone started the application of it?

My closed WP is still in progress, once I received it, I would like to know how I can apply for the open WP.
- Can I apply WP myself?
- Do I need a lawyer to apply for it?

p.s. It was my consultant who helped apply my closed WP, however, I felt that the response was very slow because I am not their only client. So this time, I would like to do it myself if possible.

Here are the rules. You are eligible if you applied for PR after October 3.

but I think your statement is inaccurate - even if we applied BEFORE October 3rd, we are still eligible for open WP

How am i reading it wrong.

If you applied for a Start-Up Visa work permit before October 3, 2024

If you applied before October 3, 2024, you applied for an employer-specific work permit. This means you will only be able to work for your start-up.

The next line just says:

If you want to apply for the new open work permit instead:

doesn't this mean that you can still apply for the open WP? but you either have to cancel the current pending closed WP application, or wait for the closed WP results then apply for the new open WP

You have to withdraw current permit, reapply for open work permit, and withdraw offer of employment so you start from scratch. Click on how to apply to see the documentation required.
