My daughter lives in Canada and can sponsor me for a supervisa. My husband retires next October and then we would like to visit for a year in the first instance. Can we apply for the supervisa in advance? We will have to do other stuff (rent our house out) that is conditional on actually getting the visas, but if we apply too early will we have to start again with medicals etc. Can you even say when you want the visa to start?

Your daughter can start the process now, when you complete the application include the date of your proposed departure from your country. Note the medical would only be valid for 1 year from it's date, by which time you would have to have entered Canada.
