Hi, i came to Canada on a student visa and was enrolled on a 4 year undergraduate program. due to financial constraints i havent been able to finish my program and i tried working to pay off tuition and living expenses. my visa expired 4 months ago and i have been struggling to raise money to pay for a flight back to my home country. My family is back home and are unable to help me out with the money. please help me with advice on what i should do
a very simple solution. Contact embassy of your own country. One of the duties of the embassy is to help constrained citizens. In this case they might be able to help you with the flight ticket. of course it will not be for free and you will have to repay it once back home. Good luck.

Thank you for responding, i have contacted my embassy and they haven't been able to help me out (they are severely underfunded). Are there any other ways to a solution? thanks again
again your embassy is the best way to help. They are the ones that should take care of their own citizens.
That is how embassies work and supposed to work.
Other option would be to contact any further family or friends to help you out. Good luck.

Agreed with the above. If your family cannot help you, then you should be approaching your embassy in Canada for assistance. I would keep contacting them. You want to avoid a situation where you are deported in Canada since this will not only impact your ability to return to Canada in the future but also impact visas to other countries.
Do be aware that if you are repatriated at the expense of your country, it will most likely be considered like a loan program. You are expected to repay the repatriation costs with interest and penalty to your government. And, it would probably remain on your passport records.
You may not be issued another passport until you have fully repaid the repatriation costs.
Do check with your embassy before you opt for government paid repatriation.
It would be best if someone you know can pay for your travel back to your home country.... or crowd funding like the other poster has suggested, etc

Lucky you. My home country’s foreign affairs department would only post officers in embassies/consulates in cities with high standards of living only if they could pay part of it out of their own pockets. I’m sad to hear that OP was told that by his own embassy, but somehow not surprised. Sounds like a third world country with corruption.
