Study permit

Hi. My study permit states that unless authorized, prohibited from engaging in employment in canada. I went to the service canada office near me and they refused me for giving a sin number but my brother’s study permit states the same and he has been issued a sin number when he applied online. So should I go to the CIC office for getting an immigration letter? Or something else should be done?

If it is stated on your study permit that you are prohibited from employment, then you won't be able to work, regardless of whether you have a SIN or not

Your study permit doesn't say you are prohibited from employment, it says unless authorized. As a study permit holder, you are authorised to work 20 hours/week off campus and full time on campus. Frankly, the people at Service Canada can be less than competent.

Ok.Thanks. Actually the service canada told me to get an immigration letter which would state that i could work in canada and when i searched on google it stated that i must go to CIC and they would help me issuing a sin. If that's not true, please advice me what should i do for getting a sin.

The trick is that there's no CIC office to go to. It's easier to break into Fort Knox.
