I am from the US and trying to get a Canadian study permit. I have several issues. First, neither I nor my parents have $10,000. I can take out loans for my tuition so that isn't the problem, its the extra $10,000 it says I need in order to get a permit. Can I just provide my parents and my bank account statements and say they will support me? I also plan on working on or off campus while studying.

This is my other issue. My boyfriend lives in Canada, hence the reason I want to study there. I would be living with him while studying. Will mentioning him decrease my chances of getting a study because it will make it seem as if I won't leave at the end of my studies? He also has enough funds to support me and can prove it. I plan on studying and then applying for a post grad work permit and then permanent residency. Is it a bad idea to mention that?

Is there anyway I can move to Canada if I can't get a study permit? i am still a college student so I have never had a salary paying job and have only an associates degree. Thank you!

The study permit is your most realistic way of moving to Canada at this time. The only other option I see is if you and your boyfriend got married - he could then sponsor you for permanent residency as his spouse.

You can apply for a study permit at the border. However you will absolutely need to show enough funds to cover both your first year tuition and $10K in living expenses. To show you have these funds, you can certainly use a combination of your own bank accounts and your parents' bank accounts. You'll want to have a letter from them confirming they are supporting your studies. The fact you will be living with your boyfriend doesn't change this - you must still show you have the extra $10K to cover living expenses. I would not recommend showing him as someone who will fund your studies or living expense. You should either have these funds yourself or your parents should be in a position to provide them.

Do not mention that you have plans on becoming a PR after you complete your studies.

Will they ask where I got the 10000? I am thinking about taking out a loan.. Also when I apply for the permit, do I have to say I already have a place to live and provide my landlords name? It would be my boyfriends dad as we rent from him.
