Study Permit Extension HELP!

Hey Guys, I’m currently in a 4-year program in a university but Because I realized I’m not cut out for my program, I’ve decided to follow my passion and start afresh this September at another school for a 2-year diploma program. But my study permit expires this summer, should I renew with my current school and change schools when it’s approved or do I have to apply for a new one?
