My immigration consultant told me that student is eligible to work full time from the first day after submitting PGWP even if he/she waits for study permit extension. It is just important that you Applied to extend it in timely manner. If your visa was expired and you didn’t apply to extend it, in that case you can’t apply for pgwp, you need to restore your status as a student, apply for pgwp with explanation and in that case you are not allowed to work as long as you wait for pgwp response. On the other hand, there are consultants who think differently… and now, how you suppose to listen??!! I also found one post (4 years ago, bit the law didn’t change since than) where IRCC agent told the same as my imigration consultant..

yes same thing i also consulted so many agents few of them said i can work others said not ,i received my completion letter on 16 aug from that day i am at home no work and not even applied for pgwp only because of the reason that i can’t start working ,but literally everybody is confusing us ircc agent told me that if you get work authorization letter after applying pgwp you can start work you have that proof ,even though if you not get it you can request that wp ext auth..letter by submitting web form rqst for that letter along with application and once you get it you can start working ,,i am so confused now

@Dilpi will you ask for that letter from IRCC? How we can get it? I think just when you Te extending you current work visa you automatically get that WP-Ext document

yes they said sometime you automatically get it and sometimes nowadays there is wait time for that letter

Yeah it is so confused. My consultant said that I am not able to work while waiting for my extension. I have same issue as you. However I have never seen any refusal case of PGWP just because they were working when they should not. Have you guys seen any case when get affected?

yeah I know someone who took a break that was not schedule, he also work after graduated without apply for pgwp and he got PGWP for 3 years xd. So I do not think they really check if you worked or not haha

Guys does applying for a work permit extension disturb the processing of a study permit applicant ?

My overall expression is that you are allowed to work while waiting for SP extension. Just advisors and consultants argue that you are not, in case of refusal, they want to be clear-no guilty. Just imagine this: two persons who graduated for example in the same time and in the same time received grades. The both from that moment are no longer students and not eligible for part time work. Person A has valid SP and applying same day become eligible for full time job. Person B is in process waiting for approval of extension, over die the processing time and it is not allowed to work. Doesn’t make any sense right?

Hi! Has anyone been studying under the public policy that allowed you to study without a study permit if you had a valid work permit? My work permit expired, so I had to apply for a new one and for a study permit extension but my school won’t let me continue studying without a study permit even though I submitted the application and should be under implied status. My new work permit is valid until next year.
