Just thought I’d start a thread for those who have applied for a study permit extension so far in 2024 to share their timelines.
I will go first!
2/29/24 - Study permit extension submitted.
I see the current processing time is 75 days.
[/QUOTE
Posted processing times are just average estimates and are often incorrect. I would be prepared for longer processing based on what others have posted. Would suggest that people apply for extensions around 6 months before expiry if possible. When does your study permit expire and when do your studies end?
Thanks for your response! Yes I’ve noticed how unpredictable processing times can be, my original study permit was approved in 17 days when the processing time was much longer, and it often seems to go the other way too.
My current permit expires in early April just about two weeks before classes end for the semester and my program ends April 29th, 2025. So I imagine I’ll go into maintained status before I get my new permit.
I came in sep 2023 degree will be completed in 2027 and my permit expired on 4th Feb .. submitted application for extension on 4th Jan for SP+SOWP extension on 4th Jan . no news yet

My study permit , spousal permit and visit permit will expire on 16 of March , I don’t know what to do , I applied on January 9th nothing yet . Should I send a web form ?

Since you applied before your current permits expired it is my understanding that you will go into “maintained status” until a decision has been made on your application so I wouldn’t worry if you don’t have a decision by March 16th. Since you’re still within the estimated processing time of 75 days (for a study permit extension) I wouldn’t send a web form yet especially since your application is for multiple permits but it’s up to you. Maybe also check the processing times for the other permit types? It seems to take a bit longer for more complex applications I.e. for more than one thing.
What does it say when you check your application status online? Has eligibility started?
Good luck! Let us know if you get any updates on your application!
Minor update today but I’m super surprised at how fast that was.
2/29/24 - Study permit extension submitted
3/1/24 - ghost update (email stating my application status had been updated)
3/4/24 - eligibility started & biometrics added
Anyway I guess that’s a good sign that they’re already looking at my application.

Yeah I got emails on March 1st and 4th. Both said “We updated your application status”. But when I logged in on the 1st I couldn’t see any changes except possibly for background check which says - “we are processing your background check.”
On the 4th the email was to let me know eligibility had started (eligibility changed from - we will send you an email when we start reviewing your eligibility to “we are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements”.)
Then I noticed my date of biometrics enrollment/expiry had also been added to my profile (I had them from a previous application).
Have you received any emails since you applied? And what does it say under details about your application status? Has background check or eligibility started?
