Hello Senior members and every member of this esteemed and highly informative forum.

I am new to this forum and i have some questions that needs answering, kindly help in anyway you can and it will be much appreciated.

I have just finished my masters in UK and my wife got an admission into one of the colleges in Canada, we recently made application for study permit for her and an open work permit for me as i would be accompanying her through her stay in Canada.

1. How long will take the application to be processed (we made an online application about 4 weeks ago) and still no word from CIC, i have read many discussions where people say they got their visa in a couple of days and other running into months, i just get confused and worried and the school is due to resume in Jan 2014?

2. She's also pregnant as of now, can entry into Canada be a problem when they find out she's pregnant (knowing that it would be visible)? though we didn't do any medicals as part of the online application (we didn't qualify to do) and at least we have not been told otherwise regarding it.

3. Will my application for an open work permit extend her study permit application in terms of the processing time?

Any helpful and cheering advice will be much appreciated. :)

First of all, congrats for the coming baby..
:) :)

Now.. there can be an added processing time because of the spouse VISA. which is like a totally different application again. So two applications together you can say. But it can also take DOUBLE the time.. It will be in ur best interest to be patient here..
:) :)

Check the timelines on the CIC website. If you feel the avg processing time has passed then is will b fine to drop a polite email regarding the status of the application and request of haste if possible as a lot of arrangement are to be made from your side.

All the best..

Most study permit applicants require a medical. If your wife requires a medical, this request will be sent once the file has been reviewed. To complete the medical, an x-ray will be required. The vast majority of doctors recommend against having an x-ray when pregnant since this test can harm your unborn child. Without the x-ray, the medical can't be completed and the study visa can't be issued.

So if your wife is asked for a medical, you are going to have to decide what to do.

@sweetalker
many thanks for the help, i think the average waiting time for a study permit application is 7 weeks in UK (however we made an online application), guess we have to wait for a reply from them.

@scylla
yeah i know but as this is one of my concern, we hope we would be exempted has we fall in the category of those that don't need, but if we are required to we would have to explain, am thinking a letter of explanation of the present circumstance will have to written to them . Cause we don't want the pregnancy to hinder the plans we already have.

Hi

I have also applied for study permit on October 7th online from the UK and an OWP for my husband. I am British and my husband is Indian with PR in the UK. We have not heard anything yet and the processing times have gone up to 8 weeks. There are other people on this forum have nor heard anything and its been 11 weeks. We were not asked to complete medicals aswell. Hopefully we will all hear soon from them but from what I have researched student visa and spousal owp will take much longer to process. Good luck and I hope you get your visas soon :)

Hi!

I'm in the same boat, I got into a canadian college for January intake and applied for a visa for me and an open work permit for my husband.
We applied together on the 28th of August and have yet to hear something back.
Its a bit stressful as we have to give notice at our jobs (at least a month) and we had to give notice early at our flat to avoid paying for a few months rent without living there so we'll be staying with the in-laws until we can figure out what to do.

Its been 11 and a half weeks for us now :(

I think you shouldn't worry about the medical exam. If the CIC website indicates that your country is exempted from medicals when applying for study permits, then your wife will not be asked to do medicals.

Wow this is serious, and it is same entry for Jan 2014? Have you made any payment to the school regarding tuition or reservation? Do let us know if you have any news or information from them.

Yes, this is for Jan 2014, and I paid my first semester tuition already otherwise I would lose my spot in my course :( i'm playing a bit of a waiting game at the moment, not fun :(

wow....it's fun playing the waiting game....
The school my wife applied for won't accept any payment until we get to Canada with a valid study permit. So we only showed money in our accounts totally over 25,000£.
