I am going back to my home country to apply for a new student permit as I didn't manage to apply for the extension in time. Will I have any problem having overstayed the country the first time? Please advise..thanks

If you studied/worked in Canada without permission, then CIC/CHC will probably refuse, until you have been in your home country for 6 months. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op12-eng.pdf Section 7.1
