I sent my application for permanent residency application. However, my work permit and Visa will expire in less than 6 months. I do not have any new job offer yet. Can I stay in Canada legally AND renew my visa while waiting for the response of my application?
It's my understanding that you will need to have either status, meaning a Visitors Record, or some sort of work permit that is valid. You can apply for an extension for your Visitors Record, and must do so at least 30 days before it is to expire. During the time you are waiting for a reply to your new VR, you will have implied status, and therefor be legal in Canada. I am not clear or sure what the work permit entails, as I do not qualify for one. I do know that you will NOT want to overstay or be here illegally, as you will be deported and issued an expulsion for at least a period of one year. File for a new VR....they will see that you filed for PR...send proof of payment of PR with your VR extension request. Cheers and good luck!

Thanks for your response. I have a job in Canada and I have a temporary work permit. I noticed that I can ask for a bridging work permit while waiting for my PR application to be reviewed. I haven't tried it yet, they mention that 4 months before the expiration of the current work permit, an individual who applied for PR can apply for a Bridging work permit.

What kind of work permit were you on? BOWP is only eligible if you have open work permits and if your PNP does not have employment restriction. (But you are in CEC so that doesn't apply)

I don't have an open work permit right now, as you mentioned my work permit is restricted to only one specific employer. If that does not apply, do you have any other suggestion? Thanks
