Answer1: As per rules if she have been living in country less than a year you can not apply for the visa office for USA.

what does sponsorship actually gives - is it the PR as the regular PR we know?

Me and my wife applied in may 2014...so far no AOR. Our lawyer says its common that they never send AOR at all, and that the first time you would here from them is when the initial assessment is done.

Well, in our case we applied nov. 2013 and as of now, we haven't receive anything from CIC.

Well i would suggest you to talk with lawyer if you have not received AOR(Acknowledgement Of Receipt) and your File number.It is not Common that CIC would not send any AOR or File Number.Did you guys gave credit card for your fee as Method of payment.If you have used Credit card to pay the fee then you can check if there is any payment to Receiver General of Canada.At least it can give you any idea.
It should take average about 4 weeks to 4 months to get AOR

We have the tracking number from Canada post that shows that it was delivered and signed, that's it.
We paid with credit card which we provided the lawyer with.
Several people at this reputable firm has repeatedly told us that it is completly normal not to hear from cic until initial assessment is done.
How would I check "payment to receiver general of Canada"? I am not following.

if it has been charged from your credit Card that means the file has been processed.
@ orotibash have applied in may 2014 his fee should be processed.

Since I'm dealing with a law firm, the firm charged the credit card, not cic directly.

yes, i did applied under the new pilot. we submitted it last jan. 12, 2015. It really takes time even for an AOR (it sucks!)

you paid by credit card to your law firm then they might have used any form of payment to make it to CIC.If it Was direct your credit card information submitted along-with your application then your fee will be deducted from authorized credit card.

Correction regarding my latest post. It says immigration in Ottawa charged the credit card in May 2014, 1040$.
However as earlier stated, no AOR.

When you apply for someone to come in Canada to get PR it is called Sponsorship.
As in your case you want to bring your wife in Canada so you are the Sponsor.

as far as i know there will be no problem on that and they didn't mention anything about AOR when applying for OWP under the new pilot.

I got Pakistani passport, NIC Card (not NICOP) which is expired & Canadian Residence Card.

My wife got Canadian Passport and NICOP Card.

We just got canadian passport for my son.

Now the question is that; Do we need pakistani visa for my son that has to be issued in canada or we can get in pakistan on arrival.

Moreover, if my son need visa in canada then how much time it will take and what are the requirements as we are flying 6 feb 2015 next month.

Get Pakistani passport and NICOP for your son while you are in Canada it is better than getting Pakistani visa. You cannot get the passport at arrival in Pakistan.
