My sister used to do background checks for the military, and I suppose the process is similar. She said they had a certain amount of money they could spend verifying things (it was a huge amount, but I forget what exactly), but unless something looked suspicious they would usually accept it at face value. They'd check a few things, if all that was in order, and nothing looked 'odd', the full background check would not be done.

So I guess my wife's background check will be quick and easy. She's always lived in Guangzhou. Finished school here. Worked here for a couple of years...that's about it...she's been unemployed for a while (during her pregnancy until present). No criminal record or anything like that...and from 2006 to present we have lived together...and we included a copy of our most recent rental contract...should be fairly simple for CIC to check these things...
