Hello,

I was PR which expired in July 2011 and relinquished in Oct 2011. My spouse (with children) continues to be PR and stay in Canada. My spouse would like to apply for spousal sponsorship sometimes in 2013. Currently I have multiple entry TRV. Once the spousal sponsorship is applied, will it have any impact on my TRV. Can I continue to visit Canada when the sponsorship application is in process?

Another question is about the tax returns. Do I need to file tax returns for 2011 after relinquishing PR, as my spouse got a letter form Revenue Canada asking for my tax returns? In such case of splited family (one with PR, other without PR), is it required to file world income by non PR spouse. Will it have any impact on the processing of spousal sponsorship?

Would highly appreciate your feedback.

Susa

1. You can continue visiting as long as your TRV is valid and your are admitted to the country.

2. Yes your spouse must continue to file income tax returns showing your income as their world income.

Have you applied for and received a SIN # before you relinquished your PR? If not, have your husband call the CRA and let them know you need a TTN (temporary taxation number) this is so they can add your world income to his previous returns they go back 3 years unless it has been less the 18 months since he landed. They will stop his CCTB if he is receiving it for the children until you provide the information but, they can not do anything until a TTN is assigned to you... GL!

Thank you. I had SIN before and was relinquished with PR in 2011. SIN was valied for part of the 2011. Can I file tax returns now for 2011 using same SIN number with only Canadian Income. Currently I do not have TTN. Will need to apply for TTN for year 2012. Thanks, Susa.

If you have a SIN then you shouldn't need anything else but the SIN. You can have your husband check to make sure but I'm sure SIN numbers do not expire and it is your number... you have to report world income any money you made while not in Canada has to be reported. money from working, investing, rental properties etc....

Thanks. I know the SIN number but the card was returned alongwith PR card. Do I need to continue to file returns with world income, though I do not have PR status since Oct 2011. What if I don't do for 2012?

Look forward to your feedback. Thank you. ..Susa
