You normally appoint an immigration lawyer as a 'representative', not you the sponsor.
I thought Family member can be use as a Representative

If you are doing the paperwork, then you are not a 3rd party "representative". This only applies if you are obtaining some form of external assistance.

1, Actually you can appoint anyone as your unpaid representative. A number of spouse applicants put themselves as representative so that all IRCC mailings and information comes to them, and they would forward to their spouse. Mind you it does delay reponses to IRCC requests going through a 3rd party
