sponsoring USA wife, what photo size? Mine were returned.

I need to know the photo size they want.This is for permanent residence coming to Canada for my wife. We sent 4 in, according to section B in the guide, but I got a return letter with an address return label saying they want Passport size. I see the medical exam size are smaller, so what are they wanting, the 35 X 45 mm and chin to crown 31-36 mm, or as in Appendix B for USA 35 X 45 mm and chin to crown 25 X 30 mm?
Need to know ASAP, thanks!

We followed the photo instructions in Appendix B for USA and ours seem to have been accepted. (We have Sponsor approval and file has been forwarded to Ottawa and we haven't received anything back.)

What size/format did you send them? (I'm not seeing on the CIC website/guides where there is another size mentioned? ..other than for medicals where we used US passport size and so far they seem ok, too)

They say immigration photos are NOT the same as passport size. The letter uses reference to section B in the guide, under USA sponsorship. It asks for the the medical pics being the given size, which are also the same size under the application guide. I found a page in there referring to 2 "Passport" size I assume later on, which are a tad bigger.
What I did notice was the photographer never trimmed the pics to the size on the sheet I gave him. The pic profile is correct, but they measured about 1/4" too wide and too tall,(35mm X 45mm requested size) so I am assuming this was the issue.I just don't want to have them trimmed, only to find out they want the passport size I found.
These are for the initial submitting for permanent residence.
