hello everyone...im a live in caregiver and planning to submit my Permanent Resident application this coming August. My question is, I wanna bring and sponsor my husband, so where should I start? Should I pass the apps for sponsoring together with the PR application, or i need to wait for PR card to be released before I am allowed to sponsor my husband..

thank you all... :)

Hi Angelstar,

As per CIC "You must include all your family members in your application for permanent resident status, even if they do not want to come to Canada with you. Family members who are not listed in your application cannot be sponsored by you at a later date.

You and your family members can get permanent resident status at the same time.

Your family members abroad will go through the process of permanent resident status at their nearest visa office.

All your family members must first pass medical and criminal screening before you can receive permanent resident status. When you receive your permanent resident status, your family members will receive immigrant visas from the visa office in their home country"

If my guess is correct that you are a Filipina, your husband's PR application will be processed in Manila office.

hi wilson,

thank you for the info. but as im reading the guidelines in cic website, i get more confused. based on the forms to be filled up for my application for permanent resident, it doesnt include the forms to sponsor my husband. now i dont know where to include the docs needed to prove that we are legally married. I read in the forum here that i should send the forms to my husband and he will send it back to me once filled up and then i will submit together with my application as sponsor to cpc-missisauga. i got confused coz the pr application will be mailed to vergeville alberta.

So you yourself are not even a PR yet...am I correct?

Can't you just list yourself as the principal applicant, and your husband as your spouse? Under what class are you planning to get your PR anyway? I assume permanent resident - live in caregivers, this one? ===>

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/permanent_resident.asp

In 1998 I was a teenager, living in Indonesia, with my parents and my sister. At that time the CIC used to have what was called the "Independent Class Immigration" programme. My dad applied for it as the principal applicant (he was / still is an IT consultant), and listed my mother as his spouse, and me + my sister as his dependants. And all 4 of us got our PRs at the same time in 1999, and that was it! My dad didn't need to sponsor us after...

You can do a similar thing......just click the link that I gave you above, and follow all the instructions precisely. And make sure to read the guide too:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5290ETOC.asp

I'm not too familiar with the live-in caregiver program as I have not been involved in it (nor do I personally know anyone who have applied for it). But I did take a quick glance, and it looks to me that you can list your husband as a dependant/spouse, and you both then will get the PR at the same time, after which you won't have to sponsor him...
