Great forum here. So glad I found it. I'm sure this will be the first of several questions I'll have, lol but here goes.
I am a Canadian citizen. I will be making a PR application soon for my Korean wife. We'll be applying from Korea. We were married in 2005 here in Korea and have been living in Seoul continuously since then. We plan to move to Canada permanently in May or June this year.
In looking through the forms I am quite confused about the medical. Some posters here are adamant that this should be sent with the original application and the medical appears on the document checklist (IMM 5491) as a required document. However, the Seoul specific instructions seem to say this;
Everyone included in your application, whether accompanying you or not, will be required to undergo a medical exam with a physician on the list of designated doctors. This also includes children of whom you have joint custody even if the children usually live with the other parent and will not accompany you to Canada.
As soon as our office has confirmation that the sponsorship in your name has been accepted, we will send the medical instructions for you and your family members (if applicable).
The immigration visa has the same validity period as the medical results, that is, twelve months from the date of the first examination or test.
So, do we get the medical done beforehand or wait until they ask us for it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Where are you seeing this information? Here is the country specific instructions on CIC site for Korea: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3907e.pdf
I don't see any info in there on delaying the medicals.
We also went through the Seoul office, and did the medical upfront and submitted with the application to Mississauga. Although in our case we did the medical in Canada.
Seoul is a pretty low volume visa office, so since you've been married 8 years and have a very strong application, you should get a pretty quick processing time so shouldn't need to worry about having the medicals expire. IMO i would do the medical also upfront. However i've heard some panel doctors in other countries won't do a medical until the sponsor is approved... so best to call around to the panel docs in Seoul and see what they say.

Hey there, we just went through the process ourselves here in Korea and my wife went to Samsung Hospital and got all the medical checks done to send with the rest of the application. It was super easy and yes, get it done before you send off the application.
With respect to time, we have been married almost 10 years and have 2 kids. From the time we sent all the docs (including my application to sponsor her) to the approval time it took about 3 months. I would still get it all done ASAP.

I think you are looking at the wrong forms. Other classes of immigrants do have to wait until the visa office sends them the medical instructions, but a sponsored spouse or common-law/conjugal partner sends the medical in with the application.
Okay, thanks very much for the replies. I'll get my wife to get it done ASAP and send it off with the application.
What is the proper way to complete the medical in Korea? So Samsung Hospital is the way to go? thanks
I don't live in Seoul, my wife and I live down south, is there still a doctor in Busan that will do the medical?

check on CIC website here and see what are the options http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=2020&CountryName=Korea,%20Republic%20of
at least 2 doctors in Busan.
Yes, just pick a doctor off the list, call and make an appointment. At the conclusion of the medical the doctor should give your wife a document called "Original Copy 2 of IMM 1017". It's Doc. # 27 on the checklist and should be enclosed with her application.
Make sure you tell her to get that document before she comes home. The doctor who did my wife's medical at Severance forgot and then we had to wait while he mailed it to us.
