This happened to me when I got sponsorship approval. They sent it by snail mail on April 4th and I left Korea on May 7th. Never got the letter before I left. So I called CIC after I got to Canada and asked them to email me a copy. A few days later it showed up in my email.

No snail mails here so far just emails.

My application to sponsor was returned to me. They say it is incomplete. In says "you must provide a current Generic Application Form (IMM008) with information for Principal Applicant and <highlighted text> all dependents."
On the IMM008 under Dependents it says "provide details of all dependents...all dependent children...who are not already permanent residents of citizens of Canada"
We left that blank as out son is a citizen and my wife has a daughter, from a previous marriage, who lives with the father, so not a dependent.
Are we missing something? What information are they looking for?

I think you needed to list the daughter.

Did you list non-dependents on the Additional Family Information Form? We listed our son (who already has Canada Citizenship) on IMM008. I remember not being able to get clear info. on that form so just listed him to be sure. When in doubt attach a letter of explanation. Did you include your wifes daughter anywhere on the forms?

"provide details of all dependents...all dependent children...who are not already permanent residents of citizens of Canada"

That statement can easily throw someone off when filling out that form. This is why we listed our son on that form, etc.

If I were you, I would:

- list your child AND your wifes child on the 008 form as dependents AND attach a letter of explanation concerning your wifes child. AND make sure they are both on the additional family information form. This way you will cover all angles (disclosure).

Just do those two forms again and courier it back.

Yes, they want all (non-Canadian) children listed. It doesn't matter if she has custody or not. They must be listed and they want medicals for them.

My wife's new CBC was sent by UPS from Korea to Manila today. Guaranteed delivery by Wednesday. Hopefully that will get her application rolling again.

This depends on the age of the daughter. Right now (definitions are changing in 2014), "dependent" is defined as:
-is under the age of 22 and does not have a spouse or common-law partner;
-is over the age of 22 and has been continuously enrolled as a full-time student and depended substantially on the financial support of a parent since before the age of 22;
-became a spouse or a common-law partner before the age of 22 and has been continuously enrolled as a full-time student and depended substantially on the financial support of a parent since becoming a spouse or common-law partner, or
-is over the age of 22 and depended substantially on the financial support of a parent since before the age of 22 because of a physical or mental condition.

If the daughter is currently under 22 or falls under any of these, she needs to be listed as a non-accompanying dependent, and CIC will want her to get a full medical done. This will keep her eligible to sponsor under family class in the future, should she ever wish to. Even though she is currently under custody of her dad, situations change.

If she doesn't do a medical exam, she would be barred forever as ineligible under family class. CIC will sometimes allow this to happen, but usually they want the applicant to sign an affidavit that they understand and accept that not doing the medical for their dependent at this point will forever ban them from getting PR under family class in the future.

best of luck with that. How is your wife enjoying Canada so far?

She's enjoying it pretty well I'd say. Likes the low prices at the grocery store. Doesn't like the cool summer we've had here in Ontario (wait til it's January, lol.). She probably has the hardest time with the fact that the rest of her family is only 3 hours away in Michigan but she can't go visit them until her PR app is complete.

Why can't she visit her family in the U.S.?

We might get a gung-ho CBSA agent who would refuse to admit her back into Canada when we return because she has a pending PR app. Small risk but if it ever happened we'd be screwed.

What about her returning to Korea for a visit?

Good you got that sorted out bart.

Your wives gonna do post-secondary in Canada? My wife is planning to get another degree. Not sure if bach. or MA. She got accepted for both, etc.
