Quick question regarding my wife visiting...
I've sent in the sponsorship documentation for an Outland PR and am waiting to hear back.
In the meantime my wife will come to Canada with a return ticket for a one week stay.

She is actually planning on staying longer(probably until the PR gets accepted).
What should she tell immigration at the airport about her visit and stay?
Should she say she plans to go back in a week or that we have filed for the PR and she plans on extending her stay?

I'm a bit worried that they might refuse her entry if she says she's here to visit me only for a week but yet comes in with 2 suitcases ;)

Thanks for any advice!
cheers

Why does she have a return ticket in 1 week if she wants to stay longer?
You should just be honest with the immigration officer, as usually they have no problem with visa-exempt visitors staying while outland app is being processed. Just show a return ticket for less than 6 months later, and can show the fee receipt that you paid for outland application.

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestion!

I know booking a ticket for one week seems fishy but the reasoning behind it was that Japan charges you more the longer your return date is. For example a one week visit is around $1000 while a 4month return ticket is closer to $2000.

Thanks again for your help!

Very strange, never heard of that type of pricing for airline tickets before. Usually the pricing is based on the dates you are flying (high or low season) and not the length of trip.

Anyways, quite often the immigration officer will not even bother asking to see a return ticket. In case they do, just be honest with them. Say it was purchased to get the cheapest price, but you are planning to extend the ticket and are prepared to leave Canada before the 6 months is up.
