I am currently living with my common-law partner in Canada for over 3 years and I'm applying under the sponsorship of my common-law partner who is a Canadian citizen. We found the CIC webpage (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp#eligibility)
specifies that "All sponsors must show that they can provide for the basic needs of the persons being sponsored."
But as an applicant without any dependants or children, I don't see any requirements of minimum income. My sponsor is self-employed (no pay-stub) and has enough assets/potential income to cover the living cost of me but as a new grad, his 2016 income is quite low. So how should he show that he can provide for the basic needs of me? What's frustrating is that even if I have a job in Canada right now, my income wouldn't be able to contribute to this, am I right?
Hi,
You don't need to worry about this because, like you said, there is no minimum income requirement. They basically just need to be satisfied that you will not end up on social assistance (welfare). As long as your sponsor can show a steady stream of income through his self-employment (you will need to show bank statements in lieu of paystubs/employer letter), or enough savings in the bank to live off of, you will be fine. You are correct that your income does not count here.

Not sure if anyone has the same problem but I found that I did not get a stamp on my passport for my most recent entry to Canada. I remember I filled in a declaration form on a machine at the airport and didn't get a stamp on my passport. Will it be a problem if I explain in my file like this? Thanks!
