My girlfriend and I have been living together for over a year and are planning to soon apply for the spousal sponsorship under common law.
My question is this: are we technically common law under Ontario law as things stand? From what I've been able to find, Ontario law dictates that common law is three years lived together or one with a child. We don't have a child, so would we already be common law? Or would the common law status begin after the sponsorship is, hopefully, complete?
I just started a new job and am looking for clarification about forms along with income tax.
