I got decision made on January 10th. I have an extremely important trip I need to make at the end of April that I absolutely can not miss.
Now I know it's 3 months away but considering the number of unknowns I am afraid the passport wont come on time. Oath invite can take anything from 1 week to several months after DM, and after the invite the certificate can take a while (especially since Im in Ottawa office and Ottawa is known to be very slow in sending out certificates), plus the processing of the passport, etc.
I was not planning on asking for urgent processing before I got the DM because I thought my file will drag till at least summer to be in DM, well after I got back from my travels. But now that DM came earlier than expected (7 days after i took the test), do you think it's a good idea to email Ottawa office with the ticket and my circumstances in order to expedite the oath and certificate delivery?
I also got DM last week and I too have a few trips lined up in the second half of the year. I am hoping that I will get my oath done with before my trips because I don't want to rush back in short notice.
I am not sure what is the nature of your trip. But unless you can't get a passport from your home country, I doubt that urgent process will be authorised. Having said that, you can always contact your local office to explain your situation. You never know. I am planning to do that in May if I still don't have an oath date by then.

I can get a passport from my home country but I can not leave canada if I do my oath and didnt get the certificate and passport yet because I would have cut my PR during oath. chances are I will get oath before my trip, now will I get it tomorrow or in 2 and a half months? Im not sure. If I get it in 2 and a half months, I will not be able to travel.
Yeah, I understand the annoyance. It also depends on how long your trip is. I think people on this forum have said that it's possible to get our first passport while outside Canada. It is also possible to re-enter Canada by car from the US, in which case a Canadian passport is not required. Someone else on this forum said they managed to get their passport within 72 hours after oath. It is of course a lot of trouble and I wouldn't want to go down these routes myself! If I were you, I would contact your local office just to poke them a bit to see whether there is anything they can do.
Didnt request urgent processing, i just emailed them asking if its possible for oath to be scheduled sooner, like the file is in decision made so there is no processing for it. Kinda like when u ask for urgent certificate delivery cause of travel plans? Idk. I tried my luck i guess
You can always postpone your oath. Travel plans won’t be considered I am afraid. Everyone then will then request urgent processing and truly urgent applications don’t get prioritized. Now I don’t know the criteria of what constitutes urgent but travel plans definitely don’t
