A ghost update can be a system update and a system update can be a ghost update or a real update who on earth knows?
This is a new system so IRCC is still iterating and fixing bugs and testing stuff as they try to make more applications digital so they can release new code or update to the tool when ever n we will all be here chasing our tails thinking its about our file

but a weird thing happened on my profile. it went from application received to "application is received at cic center" then back to "application received". I am sure they have given my application to a newbie and that person is just randomly pressing buttons to learn the systems

You should be (hopefully) getting a background check completed after the GU
Same!! But I find there is a disconnect between ecas and tracker. On ecas it shows app received and on tracker shows in progress. I don't know which one to believe.

I believe that in most cases Ecas will show "application received" till your background check is in progress and it will then turn to "in process" when BG check is completed and file gets sent from Sydney to local offices. That isn't always the case for everyone though which makes it confusing to say the least.
