Even though my SDS student visa for 2022 sep intake for a 1 year programme in canada, is in process (submitted on June 16 in the system). However due to a critical family health issue, Iam unable to travel. My family member is unwell and needs to undergo a critical surgery. So I have decided to defer irrespective of whether my student visa gets approved or not. As my programme is 1 year (unlike a traditional 2 year programme), I am worried whether i need to undergo the same painful process of again applying afresh for student visa next year, or whether there is an option to extend it, in case if i get my student visa.
Hence please advise, if i defer to next year (next intake is only Sep 2023, there is no Jan 2023 intake), should i need to simply extend my student visa or, do i need to go through the same painful processing that i already went through this year, again, next year. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Congratulations on your approval. So two things to note
1. Convincing your DLI for a deffement inspite of getting your visa approved, if you are able to convince your DLI then comes step 2.
2. what is the duration of your visa, if sep2023 still falls under your visa timelines you should have no issues entering Canada with the current visa and while simultaneously applying for the study permit extension.
Firstly my apologies. I wrote wrong english in my earlier message. My SDS student visa is not approved yet. It is just that my father is unwell and needs to undergo a critical surgery. So I have decided to defer irrespective of whether my student visa gets approved or not. As my programme is 1 year (unlike a traditional 2 year programme), I am worried whether i need to undergo the same painful process of again applying afresh for student visa next year, or whether there is an option to extend it, if i get my student visa.
