I'm a Canadian Citizen. Lived in Asia for the last 19 years. Met my husband overseas (he's not Canadian) and have been married 17 years this year. He has travelled with me to Canada many times and has been issued multiple visas, most recently a 5 and now 10 year visas (V-1). For the last 10 years, he has been the sole income earner due to expat job postings. Now suddenly, he's been made redundant. We don't own any property in Canada (always worried about double taxation) and I haven't been a resident since late 90s.

We want/need to go back to Canada to regroup, and to keep our 3 kids in school.

How / Can we change his V-1 10 year visa to a sponsored visa (based on me - but I'm also not working - yet) ... or other visa status to get him to PR? or allow him into Canada legally?? Any advice?

basically looking to go back, buy a house and get kids in school while he finds new work -either in canada or aboard again ...

Wao!this should have been done ages ago while residence obligation would easily have been met by him leaving with you(Citizen).Whichever way now a spousal application will have to be filled in for him and I hope you came back to Canada to have all your children and if not they will have to be included.Besides,if you must leave Asia immediately, he can enter with his Visitor Visa while the processing under Family Class is being handled However, please be mindful of the maximum time he can legitimately remain in Canada. Other seniors in the house can also advice

let me clarify, my kids are all born overseas, BUT are canadian citizens. they each have their own canadian passports. i'm not concerned w them coming in since they're all citizens... should i be?????

You can't "change" his visitor visa, you sponsor him for a spouse visa. It's all here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

Also, the family sponsorship board here is VERY useful for information & help.

You have no need to worry about your children as they are CDN citizens with CDN passports.

Good luck :)
