Restoring status as a worker

Hi all,

I am applying for inland sponsorship as a spouse/common law partner. I want to apply for an open work permit along side my residency application. I have used my IEC work visa and came to the end of it last October. I am currently in Canada on a visitor visa.

On the work visa application 'to change conditions, extend my stay or remain in Canada as a worker' (IMM5710), should I apply to
a) restore my status as a worker
or
b) apply for a work permit for the first time or with a new employer?

Restoration is for people in Canada illegally. Other option.
