Renewing Passport Before Arriving

My student permit applied with my current passport was approved, but my current passport is going to expire shortly after my student permit ends and I want to renew my passport before arriving Canada just in case.
Can I get my student permit at the airport with my new passport? I think I need to apply for a new eTA, are there any other things I should do?

Something similar happened to my wife. She came with a work permit accompanying me as a student. She got her visa stamped on her older passport, which expires in April 2022. Before travelling, she renewed her passport. When we arrived in Canada, we explained the situation to the immigration officer, but she said she couldn't do much. I got my study permit until July 2022 and she only got her work permit until the expiry date of her old passport. The officer told us that she could apply for an extension on her work permit afterwards, but we would have to pay a fee (C$155). We're applying for her extension right now.

I don't know if it depends on the officer that sees your case upon arrival. Try to talk to the officer, if you're lucky they may give you your fill study permit. Worst case scenario, you'll get your study permit until your passport with the visa expires and then you'll have to apply for an extension.

You can always renew your passport via your embassy/consulate in Canada, like when your program is nearing its end, your home country's consulate can take care of the renewal for you.
