I have received my CoPR a few months ago (CEC inland) and am waiting for my card to be issued and be sent to my Canadian address. I'm obliged to go on an emergency trip in two months, and to be able to do that I have to renew my passport (nothing related to the expiry date, a bit more complicated which I don't think it's relevant to my question), I want to know upon renewing my passport and getting a new one, do I have to let IRCC know that I have a new passport number while waiting for my Card to be mailed to my address? I still have to wait to receive my Card before my trip so I can come back to Canada
I know the PR Card is not linked to the passport (while my CoPR has my passport number), I don't want to slow things down in terms of getting my first card, because I really have to take this trip outside of Canada and come back, and I hope I can receive my PR card before my trip, that's why I don't wanna delay things.
No, no need to update with new passport details. Assuming you get and travel, you may want to keep a photocopy of your old passport with you - just to help settle the "I is me" question that hypothetically can come up with a new passport. (THe PR card is not linked to the passport but presumably IRCC / CBSA has files/databases that use the passport number to help identify - so on the outside chance it comes up)
Note: I write this assuming that there are no other issues with the old passport change - but you somewhat crytpically state 'nothing related to the expiry date' and not relevant to your question, so all I can say is consider all of the above null and void if it turns out the reason for the change is actually relevant or material. There are after all some reasons for passport change which might be quite relevant or require some additional steps (eg changes in name or other data in passport like date of birth, in some rare cases marital status - if PR didn't advise of being married before landing).

Hey Thank you very much for your complete answer. There reason I'm changing my passport is because I want the place of residency in my passport be Canada, and also get an immigration-related stamp in my passport as it is required by my home country. No name change, or date of birth or whatsover. Do you think there is any problem with that?
