Looks like I am going to have to go through the process of being deemed rehabilitated.
First is a DUI from 1999, next is from a fraud charge 2000.
Before all the suggestions: i can't afford a lawyer.....
I am going for spousal sponsorship....
Does anybody have any experience of the process?
Thanks
Yup I had to go through rehab , had to wait 6 months till the end of the 5 year period last year , all my app was sent in in 2008 so everything was processed and I was given AIP then told to just sit back and wait for the 6 months to pass, after that had passed I had to write a letter to my local office for a pardon ,which I had to explain why I believe I am rehabilitated.
Any questions feel free to ask and I will help all I can
Also other people here will prob add answers too.
You don't need a lawyer BTW !
Do i send off the request with my PR application? Do I have to get all the court/police files? should I apply inland because of the chances of being called for interview? (married 5.5 yrs), how do i extend my visa as it asks all those questions about previous convictions?
How much longer will it make the PR application
thanks
Firstly , are you here already with your spouse ?
OK if you are applying inland you will mostly likely be called in for an interview but don't sweat it !
send your police file wih your application and court files if you can get them, also attach a note to both explaining why you were arrested and how long ago it was, you can also ask for a pardon too , just say how sorry you are and how stupid you were at the time, and how you want to change your life for the better and put the past behind you.
When you send off for your application send in your open work permit application too, this will give you status to stay until you have been given AIP , explain on your OWP that you were charged with those offences, you will be OK !
Your PR application will take around 18 months in total , but if your doing outland it wont take that long ...but you run the risk of traveling back and forth for an interview if requested.
To extend your visa all you do is order a extend your stay application from here and tick open work permit box.

Yes, here in Ontario, Waterloo area.
I am leaning toward outland, for the right to appeal, but those court files, do i need to get all them from both convictions? Might be tricky.
So should i apply for all together: PR, Rehab, extension, and the wifes application to sponsor? Where do you think I should apply? Its usually marriage questions that are the reason for interview I thought.
I am not far from you at all , prob 1 hour LOL . I had a resisting arrest charge from 2004 and a D&D from 1990 , your charges are older than mine so you will probably be deemed rehabilitated, you never know until the immigration officer questions you about it.
If I were you and others will agree too, apply outland , its much faster and yes your correct about the spousal interview .
I would try and get both court convictions for both charges and police files too, just to cover your back, the more info you send the less info CIC will ask for.
Yes apply all together it can't hurt. DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR A PARDON TOO .
