Regarding PGWP

Dear Concern,

Greetings! I have a query that, now I am studying in IT in an university of province Alberta and my post graduate diploma ( 8 month) will be completed in April, 2020. After that I will start my new one year program in a college which is in Ontario. So, when I will apply for PGWP, I have heard that my education of Alberta will not be counted and only Ontario one will be counted and I will gonna get only 1 year of PGWP. So can somebody give me any information regarding this? Please.....

There is a break between your current program and your next program, so it only counts your future one year program for pgwp

But the break is in the summer, its not regular semester term and my new college only take intake only january and september....So why my total study length will not be counted ( 12+8)=20 months???

Because you're not enrolled between April and September. All 4 year university courses do not have classes in the summer but would still be registered as student during summer (and fees for summer paid as well).

Your two courses are not continuous, and you're not registered as student during the summer

And one of my friends will completed his post graduate diploma in June and start his new program in September. So he also will have a two months break, then what about him? And is there any referrence? I didnt find any information regarding this in CIC website. Can you please give me any link or referrence?

There is nothing that says you can combine two courses for 1 pgwp.

Pgwp is only issued for 1 graduation from a DLI. If you graduate twice, it doesn't count.

Never heard of this problem of studying in different provinces you speak of, unless you read it from official sources its BS.
The break should also not be a problem if by the time you graduate from first program you are already accepted to new program and switch your DLI on myCIC & have a valid study permit or have applied for extension.
You should also talk to immigration advisors at your school about this, out advisor even said you can work full time during this break because it is considered by IRCC an official break between programs, but you should check with your immigration advisor on this.

2 programs of 1 year = 3 yr PGWP.

Even if it's a 8 month course, typically it's 2 semesters straight and that's what any student would do.

Ignore everything jweekend said. Provided they meet PGWP requirements, both courses will count towards your PGWP. Studying in different provinces does NOT have any effect on that.

The length of the work permit should combine the length of each program. If the combined length of the programs is 2 years or longer (or 1,800 hours or longer for DVS and AVS programs in Quebec), the work permit may be valid for up to 3 years.

Both program must be from AN eligible DLI. It also has to be completed within two years. OP is moving from AB to ON.

Hi Canuck_in_uk, just wondering, if I study 2 courses in 2 different colleges within 2 years (same province). Will I still be eligible to apply for a 3-year PGWP?
