I'm applying under the Common-Law Partner Sponsorship program with my Canadian boyfriend. I have some questions about police certificate.
I am Chinese. I have lived in UK for one year. I currently live in Canada (on work permit) and I have spent most of my life in Canada since the age of 18.
My questions are:
1. Do I need to get police certificate from China and UK?
2. Does police certificate expire? I got police certificate from China last year. Can I use it this year when I submit my document?

You are only required to submit Police certificate from;
1. The country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more.
2. The country where you have spent most of your life since the age of 18.
If you currently live in Canada and has lived in Canada for six months or more and has lived in Canada since from the time you were 18, you do not need Police certificate from China or UK, and police certificates for Canada is not required. IRCC will make a request for a Canadian police certificate(s) on your behalf.
However, if you lived in UK for one year after you turned 18, i would advice you go get the UK Police Certificate........IRCC now requires applicants to submit Police certificate upfront and would like to avoid any issues that may cause delays or return of application.
Most Police Certificates expire between 6 to 12 months......so check, depends on when you obtained it.

Get one from UK and just hang onto it, but check how long it is valid for first, if it's 6 months then keep it in mind and order it later on in the process.
There is a chance that they will ask for it later. My husband had to send one from his country of residence with schedule A but now that background check had started, they have requested one from another country he spent time in.

Don't rely on the explanation provided on the CIC website. For your questions: 1, yes, you need PCC from both China and UK
2. Technically, if you had not set your foot in China, after you got your Chinese PCC, then no, you don't have to get another one, it won't expire. But the reality is that CIC may request you to get a new PCC from China, down the road.

If you obtain a PCC after leaving a country and don't return there, the PCC remains valid indefinitely, regardless of what is stated on the PCC itself.
