I was born in Taiwan and has immigrated and became a Canadian citizen since year 2000. I have been attending school in US for the last 4 years and I got married with my wife who's a Taiwanese citizen this summer.
The company I did an intern with during my study in US was generous enough to offer me a job after my graduation in June, 2012. I married my wife in July, 2012. Since currently I intend to stay with this company for the next 4-5 years, is it still possible to sponsor my wife for canadian citizenship?
You cannot sponsor your wife for citizenship. Instead, you must sponsor her for PR. Once she becomes a PR and lives in Canada for three out of four years, she can then apply for citizenship.
In order to sponsor your wife for PR, you must provide proof that you plan to return to Canada and live here once her PR status has been approved. If you have no plans to return to Canada for the next 4-5 years, then it will be difficult to prove you have immediate plans to return and will make more sense to wait and sponsor your wife once you are actually ready to return to Canada.
