Dear Friends,
My wife''s PR card is due to expiry in Aug-2022, and she had not fulfilled the residency obligations of 1095 days in a calendar period of 5 years. She is falling short of 120 days.
Question:: If she fails to return to Canada before Aug-2022 and fulfill the remaining 120 days out of 1095 days, does she have to renew the PR or apply a new PR.-- What will be the situation??

1) For the millionth time, the PR card validity has NOTHING to do with PR status. I have pointed this out numerous times on this forum.
2) The residency requirement is 730 days (2 years) in a 5 year period for maintaining Permanent Resident status
3) If your wife stays outside Canada AND if her PR card expires, she would need to apply for a PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document) to enter Canada.
4) When she applies for PRTD, they will check if your wife has met the residency requirements or not. If no, they will refuse PRTD and revoke her PR status officially. If she meets the residency requirements, then she will be issued a PRTD to enter Canada.
___________
5) Once she has fulfilled the physical presence of 1095 days in Canada in the past 5 years immediately preceding the date of the citizenship application, she will be eligible to apply for citizenship.
