Hi there,

I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is PR. I was wondering (if it is possible) to sponsor her mom, brother and sister (all of whom are 18+). This is due to our second child coming and we need help with babysitting since we both work. Her mom has a visitor visa and has been helping us with our first child.

Thank you,

Thank you,

It's possible to sponsor her mother for PR once you meet the income requirements and are selected through the annual lottery.

The brother and sister can be included as dependents in the mother's application provided they are under 22 years old and single. If they are older, they will need to qualify for PR on their own and cannot be sponsored by you.

btw, you need to plan for child care without her mother's help in the future. Until your mother in law is landed as a PR (after you met income requirement and selected in the lottery, and all the medcial, police, background check...etc), she cannot offically work.

Using her as a baby sitter and renewing her status as a visitor can only be so long (I saw ppl extending visitor status in this case twice or 3 times).

You can also look into apply for supervisa so your mother in law can stay for up to 2 years each time she visits.

For brother and sister, if they are under 22 years old (nothing to do with 18), they can be included as dependents under PR application of the mother. BUT since it's a lottery system, no one knows how soon or later will that happen. (and they cannot be included in supervisa application regardless)
