Hello,I had a query regarding Canada residency requirements.
I currently have a Canada PR card which was issued on August 2018 & is valid for 5 years (till August 2023). I have not be able to migrate yet to Canada due to various personal/professional reasons & due to the disruptions involving COVID pandemic.
If I decide to migrate to Canada in the first half of 2022, I would still not be able to satisfy the 2 year or 730 days requirement before my PR card expires in August 2023. Would that be an issue while renewing my residency status?

If you aren’t reported for not being compliant with your RO you will need to remain in Canada for 2 years until you are compliant with your RO. You will not be able to sponsor a spouse or child until you are compliant with your RO.

Thank you for your response. Appreciate all the help.
So I can continue living in Canada until I fulfill the 2 years required and then renew my PR?
My wife is already a PR. I have a baby who was born in the USA. Can I try and sponsor him before my current PR card expires?

and in case I am reported for not being compliant with my RO , can I appeal and provide reasons for falling short of the residency requirements? I have valid personal reasons for not being able to migrate to Canada earlier

okay so basically we have to get private insurance for the child till such time I am compliant(~2 years).
Also can the child(US citizen) accompany my wife and myself and stay for 2 years(continuous) in Canada till such time I am compliant & able to sponsor him or does he have to go back and forth across the border every 6 months?

You’ll need to see how expensive the private insurance plans are. Most only take out emergency medical insurance and pay out of pocket for routine care because comprehensive insurance is so expensive. You’ll need to extend his/her visitor status. Better to apply to extend online.
